Parallel Networking
Asankya’s Parallel Networking Technology is based on award-winning research at Georgia Tech on intelligent monitoring and characterization of IP networks. Asankya uses the technology to optimize the performance of a distributed mesh which enables an multiplicative increase in application performance. IP networking protocols currently route all packets of a single flow along the same path in the network. Parallel Networking allows packets of the same flow to be intelligently transported along multiple paths. It dynamically senses network changes and reacts in a split-second to utilize availability on any of the paths.

Multi-pathing at the packet-level has been used in the past, notably in X.25 networks, but the reassembly requirements of out-of-order packet delivery wiped out any performance gains. It has since been shown that out-of-order packet delivery limits unintelligent multi-pathing techniques to the throughput of the slowest link.

Parallel Networking is the only multi-pathing technology that is able to intelligently characterize the network in real-time. This allows Asankya to transport packets along different paths, in a way that the packets arrive in order at the destination. This eliminates the need for reassembly, and results in multiplicative improvements in the following:
  • Performance: Asankya offers the highest improvements to streaming quality, download throughput and interactive delay.

  • Support for All Media Experiences: Parallel Networking boosts performance for live streaming, on-demand streaming, progressive downloads, full downloads, and interactive media alike. The same solution can be used to benefit all content experiences through a common deployment.

  • Transparency: Whether deployed in the network on a Giganode or as a software plug-in, Parallel Networking operates transparently to the applications using the network. Content providers are free to utilize the software and systems of their choice without any limitations created by using Asankya.

  • Mobile Devices: The Parallel Networking algorithms rely on intelligent characterization of the underlying network. Parallel Networking shows its strength most obviously in mobile wireless network environments. No matter where your users want to consume your content, you will be able to serve them with Asankya.
Asankya has developed three major capabilities around Parallel Networking:
  1. MultiPath Transport
  2. MultiFlow TCP
  3. MultiCaching
