The Asankya real-time content solution consists of high performance peers that reside at the edge of the network, Giganodes, and end-user peers running the Asankya Softnode plug-in. These nodes intelligently characterize the network and work together, in a coordinated fashion to provide scalability of network-based services for real-time applications, as well as a consistent high-quality experience to the end-user. They overcome the performance restrictions of existing peer-to-peer solutions through the use of Parallel Networking Technology, which provides unsurpassed performance through the unique ability to dynamically and intelligently split flows at packet-level granularity. It is thus, able to transport them along multiple paths and packet caches, and enable parallel utilization of network resources.


Giganode

The Asankya Giganode is the workhorse system of the Asankya solution. The Giganode incorporates Parallel Networking, and adds to it high-throughput, high-availability hardware to support a large number of simultaneous user sessions.

The Giganode systems are remotely configured and monitored. Each Giganode is capable of supporting all content types from live streaming and downloads, to interactive entertainment. The size of the packet caches on each Giganode can be varied depending upon the usage patterns and caching requirements of the end-systems it is supporting.

Each Giganode also senses whether a requesting end-user has the Asankya Softnode plug-in loaded. Optionally, the user can be prompted to download the Softnode plug-in.


Softnode

The Asankya Softnode is a plug-in that can be loaded onto an end-user machine turning that machine into a full peer on the Asankya network. Softnode includes full Parallel Networking capability, so the plug-in can communicate with any other Asankya node to find alternate paths and packet caches. Optionally, any Softnode can also act an alternate path and as a packet cache.

A very unique benefit to the user running Softnode is that all local user processing and networking is given priority over usage from other nodes. Since Parallel Networking is dynamic, the user never feels that their machine has been "taken over". If a user starts using their machine while another user is accessing it for their stream or download, the Parallel Networking protocol will drop usage on that SoftNode within a split-second.

The Softnode plug-in is very small and processor non-intensive, so Softnode plug-in can be implemented on PCs, set-tops, and mobile devices. This gives content providers the ability to deliver an optimal experience on any device that their users desire.
